Manufacturing Engineer


SpotOn Fence invented the Dog GPS Fence category in 2019 and has experienced commercial success as well as won awards from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), South By Southwest (SXSW), the Stevies, & the NH Tech Alliance.

We are rapidly growing our company and about to launch our 2nd generation fence. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with significant experience managing products from design to manufacturing to lead and coordinate this process. The successful candidate will be comfortable in hands on role designing fixtures as well as strategic in defining the optimal production process & continuously optimizing it.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineer

  • Oversee transition of product(s) from design to manufacturing
  • Develop plan to stand up internal manufacturing including space requirements, manufacturing space layout, and required equipment.
  • Set up manufacturing line
  • Design & manufacture any fixturing or tooling needed for manufacturing
  • Develop manufacturing process and work instructions with input from Engineering team & Production team
  • Serve as liaison between Customer Service/Product Management and manufacturing to problem solve quality issues and resolve
  • Partner with Production Supervisor and assemblers to identify quality issues and resolve
  • Identify opportunities to increase production speed through process, design or policy
  • Oversee all incoming inspections including establishing criteria or tests for acceptance, working with vendors to improve quality if needed
  • Research new machinery, processes, workflows with subject matter experts & determine whether SpotOn would benefit from these new ideas
  • Develop and implement data-driven continuous improvement initiatives

Quality Lead

  • Lead all quality activities, including verification and validation plans as well as ongoing quality testing to create products with low warranty rates
  • Define quality measures and tests and write product design validation testing plan as well as quality validation plan for manufacturing
  • Source, if needed, outside vendors to conduct quality testing particular in the product design validation phase
  • Determines quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes
  • Design and implement inspection methods, equipment, acceptance criteria and sampling plans
  • Initiate or assist in cost reductions of product inspections
  • Ensure effective product engineering control and transfer to production
  • Provide validation, sampling, and statistical analysis support to other functions in the organization
  • Work with Customer Service, Product Management, and Engineering to identify quality issues and resolve by applying root cause methodologies

Requirements

  • Prior experience standing up a manufacturing line from scratch, ideally in the consumer products industry in a high production environment
  • 5-7 years transitioning products from product design to manufacturing, ideally consumer products in a high production environment
  • 5+ years CAD and Solidworks experience with ability to design fixtures for manufacturing
  • Strong project management skills. Proven experience managing across an organization to lead team to product launch
  • Excellent communication skills and can bridge communication between engineering and business
  • Thrives in a fast-moving, unstructured startup environment. Willing to do whatever it takes to make a successful product and business
