THE SYSTEM
STAYING CONNECTED
Whether you are setting up a virtual smart fence or tracking a lost pup, the SpotOn System ensures that you are there for your dog when he needs you most.
1. THE SPOTON COLLAR
Because it relies on global navigation satellite technology, rather than stationary hardware, the SpotOn Collar allows you to create virtual smart fences for your dog that will work under any weather conditions, anywhere in the world—all you have to do is walk a perimeter.
This means you won’t have to keep your dog cooped up in the house or kennel when you travel somewhere new. If you have a view of the sky (even through trees) and the right-sized area (read about minimum size limits in our FAQs) you can create a safe space for your dog.
Setting a Perimeter
Creating a custom virtual smart fence with the SpotOn Collar is as simple as walking a properly sized area with the antenna facing the sky—no wires, Wi-Fi, or base stations required. Whether you’re at home, at a relative’s house, or in the wild, the collar lets you quickly establish a virtually fenced area for your dog—no matter how bad the weather or how rough the terrain.
For those times when you just can’t wait to play together, the SpotOn Collar also allows you to instantly create a circular virtual smart fence around your location, so that you and your pup can get straight to having fun.

Once you’ve activated cellular service for your collar, the SpotOn App allows you to store, manage, and share up to 10 custom virtual smart fences. In addition, it serves as the system’s central hub in the unlikely event that your dog gets lost, providing the detailed maps and directions you need to quickly find her.
The SpotOn System connects to national cellular service networks to:
—Send notifications and detailed directions to your smartphone if your dog leaves containment
—Track your dog to within 10 feet—with updates every 6 seconds
—Enable you to view and name custom maps through the SpotOn App
—Display your dog’s name—and your phone number—on the collar’s display screen
...all for just $6.95/month—with your first 60 days free.
Tracking Your Dog
If your pup leaves the perimeter you’ve activated, you and your entire family can receive a smartphone alert within 10 seconds of the breach. Using global navigation satellite systems and AT&T and T-Mobile cellular networks, the SpotOn Collar and App will automatically begin tracking your dog, displaying her location, direction, and proximity to you. With reliable local cellular service, you will receive updates every 6 seconds and be able to locate your dog to within 10 feet.
To reunite you as soon as possible, the SpotOn App provides a street map with turn-by-turn directions, or a compass with direction and distance to your dog’s location.
3. THE SPOTON TRAINING PROGRAMS
Properly training your pup is key to success with the SpotOn System. The system keeps dogs contained within a given perimeter by exposing them to a series of tones (and optional adjustable static correction) when they get too close to its edge. These safe and effective methods have been used successfully for several decades.
Since high-quality training programs are a crucial part of the SpotOn System, we partnered with professional dog trainers to develop and test customizable plans for you and your pet.
Each program offers instructional videos and written directions to guide you through every step in the process, and our unique “Passport Quiz” will help you test your dog’s understanding of the SpotOn System. When she passes, the two of you are ready for adventures in the yard and beyond.
The Right Plan for You
Every pup is unique. That’s why we created three distinct training approaches ranging from non-aversive (without static correction) to traditional, to make sure that your dog learns how to stay within the boundaries you set in the most effective and least stressful way possible. If you do decide to use static correction when training, the SpotOn Collar lets you adjust the correction to the level that is most appropriate for your dog.
To make sure you get the highest-quality training experience available, we offer tips and FAQs on our site. We also have knowledgable trainers on staff who are available to answer all of your questions. If you need hands-on assistance, we can even help you find a local SpotOn Certified Trainer who will teach you and your pup how to get the most out of the SpotOn System together.
