This "triple threat" hardware advantage makes SpotOn more accurate and precise than any other virtual containment option. It locks onto a 151-satellite network and reads your dog's direction, speed, and acceleration to calculate their true position with AI. In independent tests, SpotOn was more than 7.3x more accurate, worked 100% of the time, and stayed reliable even in forests, metal-roof environments, and remote areas where other fences failed.
What happens when my dog approaches the SpotOn boundary?
SpotOn is designed to issue a series of three alerts as your dog nears the virtual fence.
- Alert Tone - 10 feet from the edge of the fence, the collar issues a friendly tone .
- Warning Tone - 5 feet from the boundary, the collar issues a harsher sound that, once trained, your dog will come to understand as the warning that a consequence will follow.
- Final Feedback: The final warning of the SpotOn system is a vibration or optional static correction. This cue is intended to protect your dog by quickly getting their attention so they return to the center of the yard. If used, static correction lasts for a maximum of 10 seconds, and your dog is never corrected when returning home.
Training is essential, and by learning the tones, static correction becomes a true last resort if you choose to use it.
Will SpotOn work in areas with no cellular service?
Yes, SpotOn works without a cellular connection!
Unlike your phone, SpotOn Fence can access GPS without a cellular connection, just like the original Garmin© and TomTom© navigation systems for your car. GPS is available anywhere you can see the sky, and its free.
On the app, you set your virtual fence which is loaded to your collar and issues cues to your dog.
However; if you want a GPS collar to send messages back to the app, it requires a cellular connection, since GPS does not send two-way messages.
If you just want your collar to contain your dog, the GPS connection is in constant communication with the collar to keep your dog secure.
If you want deeper insights and more control, you'll find a lot of value in adding a tracking plan, which will require reliable cellular service in your area.

How long does it take to set up SpotOn?

Does SpotOn work during power outages?
Yes! SpotOn has a rechargeable battery and does not need anything to be “plugged in” in order to work. You can even setup fences when you’re off-grid, thanks to our Off-grid Mode. It's perfect for camping!
Does static correction hurt dogs?
No. SpotOn has 30 levels of specificity, and through training, you can pinpoint the precise level where the correction captures your dog’s attention without being too heavy-handed.
Training is essential, and by learning the tones, static correction becomes a true last resort, if you choose to use it.
Is it safe for dogs to wear a smart collar?
Absolutely. We’ve even tested the collars to ensure SAR compliance. SAR testing is important because it measures the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by biological tissue when using a wireless device over a period of time.
This testing demonstrates that SpotOn complies with the internationally established guidelines. SpotOn is the only GPS collar on the market that goes this extra mile for safety.
